“Trauma is not what happened, but what the nervous system continues to carry in the absence of safety, understanding, and connection.”

TRAUMA THERAPY

My trauma therapy approach is grounded in an Interpersonal Neurobiology framework which understands that distress is an adaptive response of the nervous system shaped by our experience and relationships. My approach integrates clear, accessible psychoeducation to help you make sense of your internal states, alongside Internal Family Systems to differentiate and work with protective and vulnerable parts of the self in a compassionate, non-pathologising way. This creates a framework where experiences are understood, rather than suppressed or overridden.

Within this foundation, emotion-focused exposure is used carefully to support the gradual processing of previously overwhelming experiences, allowing them to be felt, integrated, and reorganised rather than avoided. Through the and attuned relationship, the parts of you shaped by past experience can be met with understanding, allowing what was once overwhelming to be processed and integrated.

“What was once too much to experience alone can,

IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ATTUNED RELATIONSHIP,

become something that can finally be

PROCESSED AND MADE SENSE OF.

The overall aim of trauma therapy is to increase emotional regulation, coherence, and flexibility—so that past experiences no longer dominate present functioning, and you can relate to yourself and others with greater presence, stability and choice.

“TRAUMA SOFTENS NOT THROUGH FORCE, BUT THROUGH THE REPEATED EXPERIENCE OF BEING MET WITH CARE IN THE PLACES WE ONCE HAD TO LEAVE.”

“IT IS THROUGH BEING DEEPLY SEEN AND RECEIVED THAT THE NERVOUS SYSTEM DISCOVERS NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR BEING.”
