The Medicare rebate enhances ease of accessing a Psychologist by offering a rebate to eligible clients for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year, and up to 10 group sessions per calendar year.
To be eligible for the Medicare rebate, you must have a Mental Health Care Plan and referral from your GP. Make an extended appointment with your GP, speak with your GP about why you would like to consult with a Psychologist, and if you choose to, you can ask for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). If your GP determines you are eligible, they will create a MHCP and provide you with a referral letter to myself. Bring your referral letter to your first session.
Most private health insurers offer rebates on psychological services. Your health fund will be able to provide you with further information about this. I am registered with most major health funds. You may choose to use your private health for additional sessions, or instead of creating a MHCP.
Please note that you cannot obtain both a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate for the same session.
